Knowledge ≠ Treatment—Here’s the Difference

Hello, I’m Dr. Jenny Shields, licensed psychologist in Texas (TX License #12345) and PSYPACT provider for participating states. I write articles, record podcasts, and share free worksheets here because I believe good science should be accessible—but reading a post is not the same as being in therapy.

Everything on this site—including blog posts, email newsletters, and downloadable resources—is educational. It’s designed to spark reflection, not to diagnose, treat, or prevent any mental-health condition. The only way a formal therapist–client relationship begins is when you:

  1. Book through the secure portal,
  2. Sign the informed-consent and HIPAA paperwork, and
  3. Attend our first session (in person or secure video).

In an Emergency

This site and my inbox are not monitored around the clock. If you feel unsafe with yourself or others, call 988 (U.S.), dial your local crisis line, or visit Find a Helpline for global numbers. If a life is in immediate danger, dial 911.

Professional Boundaries & Ethics

I practice under the APA Ethics Code, Texas statute, and PSYPACT rules. Nothing here should be taken as a substitute for advice from your own physician, psychiatrist, or local mental-health professional who understands your full history and culture. Always consult your personal care team before acting on information found online.

Questions & Next Steps

If you’re wondering whether my speciality in values-based, confidential therapy is the right fit, explore Confidential Therapy for Professionals or book a complimentary consultation. Otherwise, keep scrolling for the complete legal disclaimer that protects your rights and clarifies the limits of online content. Transparency is an ethical obligation—and the first step in building real trust.
